The last year, IMHCA has been learning a lot during the Idaho Licensing Board of Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists (IBOL) open board meetings in regards to what topics are necessary to cover with potential clients during the intake process. As a result, IMHCA’s ethics course this year will be covering these areas in order to better inform our counseling community on current informed consent issues.
The purpose of this workshop is to facilitate a comprehensive discussion of the clinical, ethical and legal complexities surrounding informed consent including but not limited to: Professional competence, knowledge of and compliance with standards, confidentiality, client welfare monitoring effectiveness, supervision, and cultural sensitivity. Scenarios and questions will be posed for the participant to consider in terms of their own practice, implications for the profession, and overall ethical practices.
